Edinburgh University Sign Language Society
Signsoc provides a fun and relaxed environment, where anyone who wants to learn and share British Sign Language can come along. We aim to help people learn the very basics of sign language.
Although our teachers have no formal teaching qualifications in Sign Language, many have been learning for several years and have passed their Level 1 certificate. This means that we've got some knowledge to spread around!
Understanding deaf culture and sensitivity around the subject is also a big part of what we do. We have a close relationship with Deaf Action Edinburgh, a charity that we often team up with to fundraise or raise awareness of the deaf community.
Although run by students of the University of Edinburgh, anyone is welcome to come along to our classes, at 7pm on Tuesdays. We try to accomodate specific requests for topics, words, or songs, as much as possible.
